Uganda Context Brief 2024
This report provides an overview of Uganda's socio-economic landscape, highlighting the challenges and opportunities impacting the adoption of washing machines. Despite recent economic growth, Uganda faces significant hurdles including low average incomes, limited access to electricity and clean water, and a large informal sector. These factors contribute to high school dropout rates and a pronounced gender gap, particularly in domestic chores like laundry. The Washing Machine Project (TWMP) is addressing these issues through innovative solutions and partnerships, aiming to improve living conditions for vulnerable populations, including refugees. The report also details TWMP's collaborative efforts with key stakeholders to enhance the quality of life in Uganda.
